Cromwell Hand Wrought Large Aluminum Tray/ Platter ~ A Fruit Harvest Pattern
We need to consider this Tray to be rare. The reason is because in all the different search sites I looked into, while I found the Cromwell mark in other pieces I found nothing with a fruit harvest pattern in the middle of the tray as this one is. The bottom of the tray definitely has a Cromwell Hand Wrought Aluminum mark on it.
The pattern in the middle is exquisite! In detail, it is a basket of fruit spilling over with bounty. But what is intriguing is the foliage and fruited and flowered border around the basket. At close look you can see hidden in the foliage a pig’s head, and some sort of long legged bird,. They are hidden so well that I never noticed them until just at this writing!
Around this is the traditional hand hammered circles and this is all held by 2 curled handles. The handles are extremely solid and permanently affixed. The ½ raised sides of this 15” tray is fancied off with a small pie crust fluted edge It is really beautiful!
There are no dents, or pitting! While the entire tray is brilliant in shine, there is normal scuffing for this previously used vintage tray on the top, but amazingly enough, the bottom is even shinier than the top. A small 1 “ discoloration is on the top as well. Both sides are in beautiful condition.
