Evangeline Ware Canadian Pottery: Tear Drop Dish Drip Glaze
Evangeline Ware: (from Canadian Pottery Identifier)
Beachcomber Ware. Known to have existed c. 1958. (Saint John). ----- Evangeline Ware. (Saint John and Labelle locations).
Operation was a continuation of Foley Pottery. Sons, Percy and Alponse, of Fenwick Foley were owners. Factory moved to Labelle, Quebec following a disastrous fire at the Saint John location.
Both white and red clay items produced. Operations ceased in 1970's. A mocha colored clay was also used at the Labelle location.
I have for sale today a unique tear drop or kidney “atomic” shaped little dish that sits on 3 little feet. It has a High gloss glaze and does show a few spider bites, but no cracks chips or crazing. Some of the drip glaze shows white spots. I assure you these are merely glaze variations and not chips… the under clay is red not white. The pointy tip ca act as a serving handle. The size is small 9” from the tip to the opposite rim by 4.5” a teal drip glaze frames it all.
It is made of a red clay and is glazed in a very deep green brown shade. At times it looks the color an avocado peel. The bottom is Signed “Evangeline” Canada and the # 942.
A lovely graphic and balanced design!
