This item has sold! Pre-1948 Westclox “Travalarm”Alarm Clock ~ Works! This is a wonderful atomic era Westclox. It just keeps on ticking! The alarm works and it is in almost perfect condition. The Bakelite sides to the clock show no scratches or wearing. The roll top (“Patented as a "Flexible Shutter" design”), cover that slides over the glass lens, is in perfect condition and nothing on this clock needs cleaning!
The beige Bakelite cover and shutter, that encases the metal clock workings, is accented with beautiful brushed gold-tone bars on the side front…still very lustrous and show no wear! The Face of the clock is a beautiful cream colored pearlescence and the gold art nouveaux numbers are perfect! The glass lens is completely scratch free!
2 very minor flaws: The back kick stand, (the door hides the knobs and flips open to prop up the clock for use), shows a slight line where the hinge to the stand rolls and rests on the main body. Flaw #2: Where the “Flexible Shutter” meets the top design when closed, the stationary frame has a very small crack in the corner plastic only about 1/8” and very stable…not loose. None of this affects the beauty or the workings of this “Travalarm” clock. The back of the clock reads “Pat’d USA 2054499 DES. 100297. Made in USA”. It measures 3.5x1.5.
I have called this clock “pre-1948” because in my research of this clock I saw a listing for the very same clock that showed it with its original box and sales receipt dated 1948 from Sears. So this was designed and sold before then. Even after this vintage clock (more than 60 years old!) stops working it is a fine work of art and tribute to clockworks!
